HAMDEN, CT –
Tariq Ingraham (Philadelphia, PA/Bonner-Prendergast [Wake Forest]) posted his fifth double-double of the year with 15 points and 14 rebounds, but the Rider University men's basketball team fell at league-leading Quinnipiac, 75-64, Saturday afternoon at M&T Bank Arena. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 7-13 (3-6 MAAC), while the Bobcats improve to 12-8 (8-1 MAAC).
The Broncs opened separation in the first half with an 18-5 spurt to turn a 10-8 deficit into a 26-15 lead.
T.J. Weeks Jr. (Warwick, RI/Bishop Hendricken Catholic [UMass]) sparked the run with 10-straight points, including a pair of three-pointers and
Jay Alvarez (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro Area [Houston Christian]) capped it with a putback at the 10:49 mark.
A 9-0 Quinnipiac run later in the half erased the Broncs' advantage with just under five minutes left, but a pair of Ingraham buckets as part of a 6-0 Rider run helped the Broncs to a 42-39 lead at the half. Weeks Jr. led Rider with 12 points in the first half, while Ingraham added 11. The Broncs shot 56.7 percent (17-30) in the opening 20 minutes, including 4-for-4 from long range.
But the Broncs went cold in the second half, shooting just 17.9 percent (5-28) without a conversion from long range on eight attempts. Still tied at 52-52 at the midway point of the period, the Bobcats scored 15 of the next 17 points to put the game out of reach. Rider pulled to within nine on a pair of occasions, but could draw no closer.
Quotes & Notes
"I thought our guys did some good things. We got outrebounded. We needed to make shots when they were making shots. Just have to play better defense, especially in the second half when they started to cut the lead and get back into the game and we needed to get more consecutive stops. We didn't do that today." –
