NEWARK, NJ– The Rider University men's swimming and diving team was defeated Saturday at NJIT, 178-113. The Broncs fall to 1-5 on the season, while the Highlanders improve to 2-4.
Rider won six events in the meet.
Nicholas Lane (Hackettstown, NJ/Lane Academy),
Billy Ruddy (Newton, NJ/Kittatinny Regional),
Tivon Benjamin (Palm Bay, FL/St. Anthony's Secondary School), and
Cesar Alvarez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/The Ashton School) got the Broncs off to a strong start, winning the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:30.44.
Lane got Rider's first individual win of the meet, swimming 50.79 to win the 100-back.
Ruddy got Rider a win in the 100-breast, swimming 55.94.
In the 50-free, Alvarez and Ruddy swam one-two, touching the wall at 20.99 and 21.00.
Benjamin won the 100-fly in 50.35.
In the final event of the day, Alvarez,
Dawid Turos (Riverwoods, IL/Deerfield), Lane, and
Ethan Rogowski (Waterford, NY/Shenendehowa) won the 400-free relay with a time of 3:08.70.
