Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Defeats La Salle On The Road For 5th Straight Victory

Diop, Al Masude and Da Silva score goals for Broncs

PHILADELPHIA – Adel Al Masude (Brussels, Belgium/GO Lyceum Gent) and Theo Da Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil/University of Rio Grande) scored less than two minutes apart to break a 1-1 tie in the second half and give the Rider University men's soccer team a 3-1 victory at La Salle Tuesday night. With the win, the Broncs' fifth straight, Rider improves to 5-2-0 on the season. La Salle fell to 1-4-2.

Following a La Salle hand ball inside the 18-yard box, Momo Diop (Thies, Senegal/Prive Serigne Touba) converted his team-leading fifth goal of the year on a penalty kick in the 34th minute. But La Salle answered in the 41st minute as Colin Beasley scored off a free kick from 25 yards out, curling a shot inside the right post.

The Broncs blew the game open with consecutive goals within 106 seconds of each other in the 67th and 69th minutes. Al Masude had his initial shot blocked. But the Broncs regained possession, with Bryan Akongo (London, England/Harris Academy Orpington [Georgia State/Robert Morris]) getting the ball back to Al Masude outside the 18-yard box. Al Masude then rocketed a shot into the left upper 90 for the 2-1 lead at 66:36. Less than two minutes later, six Explorers surrounded and dispossessed Akongo near the top of the box. But it was Da Silva getting to the ball first and delivering a shot inside the left post on one touch from 20 yards out for a 3-1 lead at 68:22.

Quotes & Notes

"The boys showed well tonight. I was worried about our legs after Saturday knowing the effort they put in against NJIT. It was a collective effort tonight. Three different goal scorers and defensively we were solid. Every game gives a different look and this group keeps showing well. I'm proud of them." – Rider Head Coach Chad Duernberger
