Volleyball Falls in Four Sets to IU Indy

WASHINGTON, DC– The Rider University volleyball team took the opening set over IU Indy Saturday afternoon, but ultimately fell in four sets, 24-26, 25-12, 25-13, 25-22. The Broncs fall to 1-8 on the season while the Jaguars improve to 4-6.

Tied 1-1 in the first, Rider went on a 7-2 run to open an early advantage. Trailing 19-13, the Jaguars scored five-straight points to pull to within 19-18 and after Rider earned back-to-back set points, IU Indy scored twice to even the set 24-24. At that point, Carley McAleavey (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) recorded a kill, followed by an ace from Simone Langford (Hollywood, FL/Flanagan) to take the set.

Leading 5-4 in the second, IU Indy went on a 5-0 run and would not trail in the set. The script was very similar in the third, with the Jaguars leading 7-6, going on a 4-0 run and never looking back.

The fourth appeared to be similar with IU Indy turning a 6-4 edge into a 10-4 lead with a 4-0 run. But trailing 17-9, Rider went on a 6-0 run during the serve of Makenna Mason (Hilton Head Island, SC/Hilton Head) and would later tie the set at 19-19. Tied 21-21, the Jaguars would close out the match on a 4-1 run.
