LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University women's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season when they dropped their home opener to the Seton Hall Pirates, 1-0, Sunday evening on Ben Cohen Field. A scoreless 67 minutes followed by a late goal in the second half by the Pirates was the difference in the match. The Broncs fall to 1-1-1 on the season.
The Broncs and Pirates played the first 40-plus minutes to a scoreless draw, however, the start of the match was not without opportunities, the best of which came in the 9th minute when the ball found the foot of
Tess Ferrie outside the box. Ferrie wound up and ripped a shot that nearly went in, hitting the right post.
The Pirates had their fair share of quality looks in the match, forcing Rider keeper
Ellie Sciancalepore to make nine saves on the night, including six in the second half.
A late effort by senior forward
Logan Racine was not enough when she nearly had the tying goal, shooting from about 20 yards out and hitting the crossbar in the final four minutes of play.
Quotes and Notes
"I'm disappointed with the result but there's a lot of positives to take away. We got a lot of freshmen playing in the game and some of them were directly involved in creating some of our chances tonight. But I think some of our chances were there so there are some positives to take away. It hit the crossbar twice, once in the first half and once in the second. Turning the ball over too much gave them opportunities. That's what we have to change." -
