Tess Ferrie Leads Women's Soccer to Shutout Win Over Delaware State

Three Broncs tally goals, Ferrie nets hat trick

DOVER, DE - Tess Ferrie scored the first three goals of her Broncs career to lead the Rider University women's soccer team its first win of the 2024 season, a 5-0 victory Delaware State Wednesday night. The Broncs (1-0-1) controlled the match, outshooting the Hornets 32-8 with Ferrie, Courtney Carter and Leonor Alves each finding the back of the net in the victory. The Broncs now improve to 1-0-1 on the season.

Tess Ferrie opened up scoring for the Broncs with a header off Ava DeGeorge's free kick in the 12th minute of the match to give Rider a 1-0 edge early on. The Broncs would outshoot the Hornets 13-5 in the opening half.

In the second half, the Broncs kept the pressure on, scoring four goals to seal the victory. Courtney Carter would get things going by scoring less than three minutes into the second half to make it 2-0. Leonor Alves and Ferrie would both follow Carter's goal by finding the back of the net just 36 seconds apart from each other in the 55th and 56th minutes. Ferrie finished off her hat trick, weaving through multiple defenders and scoring in the 66th minute.

Quotes and Notes
" We spoke at halftime about looking to dominate the opponent in the 2nd half so it was really pleasing to emphatically put the game away early in the 2nd half. We had some excellent performances headlined with Tess Ferrie scoring her first goal and collegiate hat trick. And the defensive unit collecting a shutout." – Rider Head Coach Drayson Hounsome

- Ellie Sciancalepore posted her second-straight clean sheet to open the season. She now has 17 career shutouts.
- The Broncs are now 12-0-1 all-time vs Delaware State, including wins in each of the last seven meetings.
- Sciancalepore, Bethie Morgan and Emma Cordero each played all 90 minutes.
