LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ –
Dhruv Tangri (Punjab, India/Cambridge International School) won at No. 2 singles and
Jake Grimes (Atlanta, GA/Johnson Ferry Christian Academy) and
Nathan Slattery (Nenagh, Ireland) won at No. 2 doubles, but the Rider University men's tennis team fell to Quinnipiac, 6-1, Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 4-16 (1-2 MAAC), while the Bobcats improve to 11-9 (4-0 MAAC).
In doubles, Grimes and Slattery defeated Finn Burridge and Carlos Braun Simo, 6-4, at No. 2. But the Bobcats took the point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3.
In singles, Tangri earned a 7-6, 6-2, win over Ayato Arakaki at No. 2. But Quinnipiac won the remaining five flights, including three in three sets.
Matthew Griscti (Madliena, Malta), Slattery and Grimes each took a set at Nos. 1, 3 and 6, respectively.
"Better effort and energy today. Hats off to Quinnipiac. They are solid throughout both lineups," said Rider Head Coach
Tom Battaglia. "We need to find a way to get back to putting more balls in play and cut down on the unforced. We try too hard to make the perfect shot at times, and it leaves openings on the court when we don't hit winners. Just need to get back to disciplined tennis."
The Broncs return to action Tuesday, when they play host to Mount St. Mary's. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
