FAIRFIELD, CT – The Rider University women's tennis team fell at Fairfield, 7-0, Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 2-11 (0-2 MAAC), while the Stags improved to 6-8 (3-0 MAAC).
The Stags took quick doubles victories at Nos. 1 and 3 to take the point.
Samantha Killin (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) and
Daniela Naves (Alvarado, Mexico/Club Med Academies) had their match against Lily Malinowski and Francesca Karman at No. 2 halted while tied at 4-4.
In singles, the Stags took all six flights, including five in straight sets. Killin forced a third set, before falling to Scarlett Hutchinson, 6-2, 6-7 (7-5), 1-0 (10-6) at No. 6.
Andrea Sydow (Las Querenzas, Mexico/Prepa Net ITESM) was also competitive at No. 5, but fell to Maeve Cassidy, 6-1, 7-6 (8-6).
"We didn't adjust to the conditions, plain and simple," said Rider Head Coach Tom Battaglia. "Nothing more to say. We need to let it go and get ready for tomorrow. Tomorrow is a big day and they need to be ready to go."
The Broncs return to action Sunday, when they play host to Quinnipiac. First serve is scheduled for noon.
