LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University women's tennis team fell to Quinnipiac, 7-0, Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 2-12 (0-3 MAAC), while the Bobcats improved to 8-10 (4-0 MAAC).
The Bobcats swept very competitive doubles matches. The duos of
Samantha Killin (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley)/
Daniela Naves (Alvarado, Mexico/Club Med Academies) and
Andrea Sydow (Las Queranzas, Mexico/Prepa Net ITESM)/
Elle Catanzarite (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central)
fell by 6-4 margins at Nos. 2 and 3, respectively. At top doubles,
Agnese Ceccarelli (Arezzo, Italy/Liceo Classico Francesco Petrarca) and
Sofia Gutierrez (Miami, FL/Palmetto Senior) fell to Dominique Yeo and Vera Sekerina, 6-3.
The Broncs' most-competitive singles flight came at No. 1, where Fishman fell to Anagha Shankar, 6-3, 6-7 (5-7), 7-5. Naves also played a tight match at No. 3, but fell to Caroline Schulson, 7-5, 6-4.
"Better effort and energy today. Hats off to Quinnipiac. They are solid throughout both lineups," said Rider Head Coach
Tom Battaglia. "We need to find a way to get back to putting more balls in play and cut down on the unforced. We try too hard to make the perfect shot at times, and it leaves openings on the court when we don't hit winners. Just need to get back to disciplined tennis."
The Broncs return to action Tuesday, when they play host to Mount St. Mary's. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
