Lacrosse Drops Fourth-Straight Game

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – The Rider University women's lacrosse team was tied in the third quarter, before ultimately falling at Niagara, 18-13, Saturday afternoon. The Broncs fall to 8-7 on the season, including 2-5 in MAAC games, while The Purple Eagles improve to 12-3 on the season, and 5-2 in league contests.
 
Both defenses started strong in the opening quarter, as it took over five minutes for Kylee Garcia (Neshanic Station, NJ/Somerville[FDU-Florham]) to open the scoring in the game. After a pair of Niagara goals, Emily Wesoky (Sterling, VA/Dominion[Wagner]) hit Selena Carrington (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North[Rutgers]) with a pass and Carrington tied the game at two, where the score remained through the end of the quarter.
 
The offenses came alive in the second with Garcia and Elena Bontatibus (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) scoring goals that were quickly countered by the Purple Eagles. Tied 4-4, Rider scored three-straight goals, getting tallies from Wesoky, Garcia, and Bontatibus to take a 7-4 lead before Niagara scored four-straight goals to take an 8-7 lead into the half.
 
Down 9-7 early in the third, Anna Devlin (Marmora, NJ/Ocean City[TCNJ]) scored back-to-back goals, evening the score at 9-9. The Purple Eagles would close out the quarter on a 4-1 run to lead 13-10 after three quarters.
 
Both sides swapped goals in the beginning of the fourth, including Wesoky and Bontatibus completing their hat tricks. Leading 16-13, the Purple Eagles scored the game's final two goals to produce the final score.

- Jamie Kubach (Philadelphia, PA/William Penn Charter[FDU-Florham]) made the start in net, making 11 saves, taking the loss.
