Women's Basketball Drops Regular Season Finale at Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, CT – The Rider University women's basketball team was defeated on Saturday afternoon at Fairfield, 83-54. The Broncs wrap up the regular season at 9-20 overall, and 6-14 in MAAC games, while the Stags will enter the conference tournament at 28-1 on the season, and 20-0 in league games.
 
The Stags opened the game strong, scoring the game's first 10 points, and continuing to build the lead, scoring the final five points of the first quarter to go up 22-4 after the opening 10 minutes.
 
Fairfield extended the run, scoring the first six points of the second quarter to lead 28-4. Trailing 30-6, Rider scored five-straight capped by back-to-back baskets from Sanaa Redmond (Philadelphia, PA/The Shipley School[Samford]) and Kaylan Deveney (Medford, NJ/Life Center Academy). Fairfield held a 40-16 advantage at the halftime break.
 
After the Stags scored the first six points of the second half, both sides struggled to make a run, with no one scoring more than four-straight points for the remainder of the contest.

- Fairfield earns the season sweep, and now leads the all-time series 47-13.
- Taylor Blunt (Delco, PA/The Peddie School (NJ)[Detroit Mercy]) scored a career-high 11 points to lead the Broncs, reaching double figures for the first time in her career.
- Jessika Schiffer (Iserlohn, Germany/Deutschhaus Gymnasium Würzburg[Buffalo]) added 10 points, reaching double figures for the eighth time this season.

Broncs By The Numbers
- Rider shot 43.9% (18-41) from the field, and 28.6% (4-14) from three, and the Stags shot 51.8% (29-56) from the field and 40.7% (11-27) from three.
- The Broncs had nine assists on their 18 made baskets, led by two each from Blunt and Aliya McIver (White Plains, NY/White Plains).
- Rider was outrebounded by Fairfield, 33-22, including a 13-5 advantage for the Stags on the offensive glass. Deveney led Rider with five boards.

- Rider is mathematically locked into the eight-seed and is set to face Iona, who is mathematically locked into the nine-seed at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, pending the release of the official bracket by the MAAC later tonight.
