Baseball Drops Heartbreaker vs USC-Upstate

Broncs walked off in Spartanburg

SPARTANBURG, SCBrian Skettini (Midland Park, NJ/ Ridgewood) had another massive game, however the Broncs would fall in heartbreaking fashion 9-8 at USC-Upstate. With the loss, the Broncs drop to 1-8 on the year and USC-Upstate moves to 8-7.

Skettini started the game right where he left off a night ago by recording his second home run of the weekend to put the Broncs ahead 1-0, in the top of the first. Skettini would send the first pitch of the at-bat vs Upstate starter Mathieu Curtis out to the left for his second home run in back-to-back nights. Similar to game one of the series Upstate would answer the Broncs' offense with a run of their own in the bottom of the first tying the game at one.

Upstate would light the scoreboard twice in the third thanks to a triple from Jace Reinhart and a base hit from Koby Kropf to go ahead 3-1.

Following a big third inning for Upstate, Rider found their first crooked number of the game in the fourth when Rider drove in five runs to take a 6-3 lead. The Broncs' big inning was capped off with a three-run home run from Anthony Paskell (Solon, OH/Saint Ignatius) to start his big day offensively.

In the fifth inning, the Broncs offense stayed hot driving in a pair of runs in the frame to go ahead 8-3. Skettini started the offense off in the inning by scoring off a passed ball. Paskell followed up the Skettini run with his fourth RBI of the night driving in Luke Lesch (Gloucester Township, NJ/ Gloucester Catholic) to cap off another strong Rider inning.

Upstate got to work on the comeback, tallying a pair of home runs in the sixth and seventh innings, tying the game going into the ninth. In the ninth, Easton Cullison drove in David Pereria, walking things off with a base hit in between first and second.
