HOPEWELL, NJ –
Laila Fishman (Marlboro, NJ/Marlboro) won at both singles and doubles as the Rider University women's tennis team earned a 4-3 win over Lafayette Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Broncs improve to 1-5, while the Leopards are now 2-3.
The Broncs got things moving in the right direction with wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles. Fishman and
Jett Coetzee (Miami, FL/Miami Palmetto Senior) defeated Olivia Boeckman and Alyssa Perdomo, 7-6 (8-6) at No. 2 doubles to clinch the doubles point.
Elle Catanzarite (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) and
Avery Oppenheim (Marietta, GA/Walton/Georgia Connections) also earned a 6-4 win over Mia Hernandez and Ally Bauer at No. 3 in taking the doubles point.
In singles, all six flights ended in straight sets, with the Broncs taking wins at Nos. 1, 2 and 6. Fishman defeated Carmen Merkel, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 1, while
Daniela Naves (Alvarado, Mexico/Club Med Academies) earned a 6-3, 6-3, win over Perdomo at No. 2.
Sofia Gutierrez (Miami, FL/Palmetto Senior) defeated Layla Drotar at No. 6, 6-3, 6-4.

Tom Battaglia. "All around unreal effort and support. You felt it from the first ball we hit in warm ups. When you play with that type of energy, the sky is the limit for us. Beyond proud of them and excited for Seton Hall on Friday."
The Broncs return to action Friday, when they travel to Seton Hall. First serve from South Orange is scheduled for 6 p.m.
