SOUTH ORANGE, NJ –
Elle Catanzarite (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) and
Avery Oppenheim (Marietta, GA/Walton/Georgia Connections) earned a 7-6 doubles win, but the Rider University women's tennis team was defeated at Seton Hall, 7-0, Friday night. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 1-6, while the Pirates are now 3-2.
Catanzarite and Oppenheim defeated Aili Hietala and Hili Kronzon, 7-6, at No. 2 doubles. But the Pirates took the other two flights by 6-3 and 6-2 margins at Nos. 1 and 3, respectively, to take the point.
The Pirates went on to win all six singles flights in straight sets.
Laila Fishman's (Marlboro, NJ/Marlboro) match at No. 1 was the most competitive, but she fell to Anastasia Sereda, 6-4, 6-4.
The Broncs return to action Saturday, when they travel to Binghamton for a 1 p.m. first serve.
