What You Need To Know
- Rider concludes a two-game West coast road trip to open the 2024-25 season Wednesday night, when it visits the University of San Diego at 11 p.m. (ET).
- The Broncs opened the season Monday with a setback at #22 UCLA. TJ Weeks Jr. led the Broncs with 15 points, including 4-of-7 shooting from long range, while Alaaeddine Boutayeb added 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting off the bench.
- Wednesday's game is San Diego's season opener. The Toreros lost five key contributors to the transfer portal from last year's team that won 18 games. New to the fold is graduate guard Kody Clouet, who averaged 17.6 ppg. last year at Oklahoma State. Senior center Steven Jamerson II is San Diego's top returner after averaging 8.3 points and 8.1 rebounds per game last year.
- The Broncs return a pair of starters in TJ Weeks Jr. and Tariq Ingraham. Weeks Jr. is Rider's top returning scorer at 10.0 points per game to go along with 6.3 rebounds per game. Ingraham averaged a team-high 6.5 rebounds in addition to scoring 9.3 points per game.
- Also back for Rider are Ruben Rodriguez, Tyriek Weeks, Ife West-Ingram and Jack McFadden. Rodriguez is expected to take over the starting point guard role, while Weeks, West-Ingram and McFadden will have roles off the bench.
- The Broncs were picked seventh in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Rider has had unique success in three prior occasions being picked seventh, outperforming their projections with the 1st (2017-18), 2nd (2014-15) and 6th (2016-17) seeds in the MAAC Tournament in those seasons.
- 13th-year Head Coach Kevin Baggett's teams have posted a 192-184 record. Baggett won MAAC Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2018.
- Only John Carpenter (292) has more wins at Rider.
