Volleyball Continues Hot Stretch with Straight Set Win Over Siena

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ– The Rider University volleyball team won their fourth-straight match, all in straight sets Saturday afternoon, winning 25-11, 25-23, 25-15 over Siena. The Broncs improve to 11-15 on the season and 10-3 in MAAC play, while the Saints fall to 5-20 on the year, including a 4-9 mark in league matches.

Rider was dominant from the start, building a 6-0 lead with a pair of aces by Ryley Frye (New Hope, MN/Robbinsdale Armstrong[UTEP]), then extending the lead to 12-1 with another 6-0 run on the serve of Carly Zimmet (Purcellville, VA/Loudon Valley) and never trailing in the set.

Rider jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the second, thanks to two blocks and a kill by Carley McAleavey (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West). Trailing 16-11, Siena got back into the set with a 4-0 run and would later tie the set 21-21. From there Rider got a side out, then an ace by Makenna Mason (Hilton Head Island, SC/Hilton Head) before four-straight side outs gave Rider a 25-23 set win.

Siena came out firing to begin the third, getting their first lead of the match with three points to begin the set. Rider immediately countered with a 4-0 run of its own and would never trail again. Leading 14-11, Rider went on a 5-1 run. Leading 20-15, Rider closed out the match with a 5-0 run on the serve of Simone Langford (Hollywood, Fl/Flanagan).

QUOTES & NOTES
"Really happy with the grittiness to get a three-set victory. This is a tough one, being on a bus for 3.5-4 hours, stepping off, and needing to compete. The players did a great job of generating energy to come away with this win. Our pins (Kianny, Rylah, and Brynn) were efficient and worked well in slowing down their attack. Setters and middles were connecting really well. I think the catalyst was on defense, I thought we were really good today, and frustrated their hitters a lot. Keegan, Simone, and Carly were phenomenal all match. Have to recharge and get ready for a tough Marist team tomorrow."– Head Coach Jeff Rotondo
