Men's Soccer Plays Marist to 2-2 Draw

Diop records a goal and an assist

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Momo Diop (Thies, Senegal/Prive Serigne Touba) contributed a goal and an assist as the Rider University men's soccer team played Marist to a 2-2 draw Saturday afternoon on Ben Cohen Field. With the tie, the Broncs move to 11-4-1 (5-1-1 MAAC) and are unbeaten in their last six. Marist moves to 6-7-2 (3-2-2 MAAC).

Both teams scored in the early going. First, it was Jack McGeechan (Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands Regional) scoring to the near, left upper 90 after making a run to the box and being fed from the top of the 18 by Momo Diop (Thies, Senegal/Prive Serigne Touba) just 1:26 into the match. Marist responded in the 10th minute, with Caio Cavaletti playing Chris Verheul into the box for a 1-v-1 opportunity with Adam Salama (Ramle, Israel/Orthodox [Ottawa Univ.]). Verheul went low across the mouth of goal and inside the right panel for the equalizer.

In the second half, Marist was awarded a penalty kick for a foul inside the 18-yard box, but Salama came up with a big kick save in the 58th minute. But the Red Foxes broke through on a Arion Ulaj strike off Richard Morel's service into the box.

The Broncs weren't done, however. Diop and Patryk Rojek (King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion) worked a give-and-go into the box in 84'. Diop then put a series of hesitation moves on the defenders before threading a shot inside the left post for the equalizer.

Quotes & Notes
"We knew what we were getting ourselves into today. I thought we got off to a great start with a goal early, which helped us. But as the game went, we struggled. I think we heavy legs from the midweek. So, it all plays into it over the course of a long season. I don't think we were as sharp on the ball as we normally are. So, hopefully, we can get our legs back one last time in the regular season midweek." – Rider Head Coach Chad Duernberger

- With the tie and an Iona win over Manhattan, the Broncs and Gaels are tied atop the MAAC Standings with 16 points apiece with one date left on the league slate.

- Salama finished with one save.
