Men's Basketball Shoots 53%, Earns 3rd-Straight Win at Navy, 90-79

Broncs win three-straight road games in November for first time in program history

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Four Broncs scored in double figures and the Rider University men's basketball team shot 53 percent from both the floor and beyond the three-point arc to earn a 90-79 road win at Navy Tuesday night at Alumni Hall. With the win, the Broncs' third-straight, Rider improves to 3-1, while the Midshipmen fall to 1-2.

The Broncs shot 57.7 percent (15-26) from the floor, including 7-of-10 from long range, and made all 10 of their free-throw attempts in the first half to gradually build a 12-point lead, the 47-35 halftime discrepancy. An early 10-0 Rider run was capped by Zion Cruz's (Trenton, NJ/Donda [DePaul/Pratt CC]) first attempt as a Bronc for a triple at the 12:01 mark to give the Broncs their first separation. The lead swelled to 10 on a Jay Alvarez (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro Area [Houston Christian) three at the 8:54 mark, one of his four on five attempts in the first half for 12 points.

Making his first career start, Ife West-Ingram (Philadelphia, PA/Abington Friends) made his first four shots, including Rider's final bucket of the half to push to a 12-point lead, and two from the free-throw line for 10 points to go along with five rebounds and three assists. T.J. Weeks Jr. (Warwick, RI/Bishop Hendricken Catholic [UMass]) also added nine points in the first 20 minutes.

Rider's lead remained between eight and 12 points for the bulk of the second half, before growing to 14 on a Cole McCabe (Miami Beach, FL/Miami Country Day/IMG Academy) lay-up with 5:46 left. Navy responded with a 9-0 run to cut it to five, 75-70, before Weeks Jr. stopped the bleeding with a 17-footer and Flash Burton (Philadelphia, PA/Cardinal O'Hara) followed with the first two of his 9-for-10 shooting from the free-throw line in the final 2:25 to help ice the game.

Quotes & Notes
"I thought our guys did a good job scoring. We broke their pressure. Late game, we panicked a little bit. We're still learning to play in these situations early on. Still trying to figure out everybody and their roles. We're coming along, coming together, and another big road win. We haven't been home to win any games at home, so for us to start off like this in November, kudos to our guys."

"As time goes on, we get better, have time to practice, watch some more film… my coaches are doing a great job breaking things down for these guys. A lot of it is learning off the court as well, on film and things. And then you start to win, man. When you win, it just becomes infectious and everybody wants to be a part of it. We've just got to get better at practicing the right way every day. Once everybody gets locked in and understanding all the nuances of what we're asking them to do defensively, the sky's the limit for us." – Rider Head Coach Kevin Baggett

- The Broncs and Midshipmen had never met on the hardwood prior to tonight's game.
- Nine of 10 Broncs to see action scored in the win.
