HAMDEN, CT – Rider University women's tennis student-athletes
Maria Buss (Bocholt, Germany Bischöfliches St.-Josef-Gymnasium Bocholt),
Laila Fishman (Marlboro, NJ/Marlboro) and
Claire Brown (Duluth, GA/Northview) each won Round of 32 matches at the MAAC Masters Tournament Friday.
Buss earned a 6-2, 5-7, 10-4, victory over Victoria Mandma of Fairfield, while Fishman defeated Merrimack's Kiana Thompson, 6-1, 6-2. Brown also defeated Merrimack's Jordan Phillips, 6-0, 6-2. Both Buss and Fishman would push to a third set, but fall, in their Round of 16 matches. Brown fell in straight sets.
A pair of Rider duos also fell in the doubles Round of 16. Buss and
Elle Catanzarite (Flemington, NJ/Hunterdon Central) fell to Marist's Cloe Clements and Caterina Assi, 6-4, while
Chloe Monachelli (Somers, NY/Somers) and
Daniela Naves (Alvarado, Mexico/Club Med Academies) fell to Sacred Heart's Ola Irla-Bartyzel and Aina Garriga Martinez, 6-1.
The Broncs return to action Sunday, when they play their first dual of the season at Bryant. First serve is slated for 11 a.m.
