Volleyball Defeats Manhattan in Straight Sets

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ– The Rider University volleyball team put together a strong performance Sunday afternoon, winning 25-16, 25-14, 25-23 over Manhattan. The Broncs improve to 9-15 on the season and 8-3 in MAAC play, while the Jaspers fall to 1-21 on the year, including an 0-11 mark in league matches.
 
Leading 10-9 in the first, Rider scored four-straight points, including a pair of aces from Ryley Frye (New Hope, MN/Robbinsdale Armstrong[UTEP]). After a side out by Manhattan, Rider immediately scored another four-straight points, including a kill and an ace from Paige Giehtbrock (Clarkston, MI/Clarkston) and the Broncs maintained the advantage to take the opening set.
 
In set two, the Broncs were dominant, never trailing in the set, led by five kills from Rylah Robinson (Fairfax, VA/Robinson) and four from Giehtbrock.
 
The Jaspers came out of the break firing, quickly building a 10-3 lead in the third. Trailing 19-13, the Broncs showed fight, scoring seven-straight points, including two kills by Giehtbrock and two aces by Simone Langford (Hollywood, FL/Flanagan). The Broncs would maintain the lead and would secure the match with a kill by Robinson.

- Rider cuts Manhattan's lead in the all-time series to 31-24.
- Giehtbrock finished with team highs of 10 kills and 14 digs for her seventh double-double of the season.
- Makenna Mason (Hilton Head Island, SC/Hilton Head) and Frye finished with 18 and 11 assists to reach double figures for the 21st and 18th times this season.
