Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Blanks Siena, 1-0

McGeechan scores game winner in 77th minute

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Jack McGeechan (Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands Regional) scored the game-winning goal in the 77th minute as the Rider University men's soccer team defeated Siena, 1-0, on Alumni Night Saturday on Ben Cohen Field. With the win, the Broncs improve to 10-4-0 (4-1 MAAC), handing Siena (5-4-5, 3-1-2 MAAC) its first league setback.

After a scoreless first half in which the Broncs took four shots to the Saints' three, the Broncs developed a great chance in the 52nd minute. But Momo Diop's (Thies, Senegal/Prive Serigne Touba) attempt went off the left post to keep the game at 0-0. Rider continued to keep the pressure on Siena keeper Bennet Glinder, forcing him to make a pair of saves in the period before McGeechan broke through for his tally. Diop played McGeechan into the top, left corner of the 18-yard box, before McGeechan spun a left-footed shot off the side of his foot from left-to-right over Glinder and inside the right post for his second goal in as many home games.

Siena wouldn't go away quietly, responding with shots that forced Adam Salama (Ramle, Israel/Orthodox [Ottawa Univ.]) to make saves in the 79th and 80th minutes. But the Broncs keeper was equal to the task and secured the Broncs' third-straight clean sheet and their sixth of the season.

Quotes & Notes
"The atmosphere was unbelievable. In all my games so far here over two seasons, that's probably at the top for the atmosphere piece.

"I wish I could coach Jack for another eight years here at Rider for what he brings to the field. But it was a collective effort. We were knocking at the door for a long spell of it and it was nice to see that we could finally break through and get the goal. I worried that there was a little too much time left. But the boys played well. It's hard to play here. They were up for tonight, fed off the crowd and we made some adjustments at halftime that I felt like really allowed us to get on the ball more and go at it." – Rider Head Coach Chad Duernberger

"I can't even explain the feeling. It's such a nice feeling to be at home in front of our crowd at Rider and have the shouting from everyone. The bench was awesome. Everyone on the field was awesome, so it was just an amazing feeling."

"It's honestly a second family. It's unbelievable. There's so much positivity on the field. Even if you make a mistake, they're always there to pick you up and make the next play. It's just phenomenal." – Rider senior defender Jack McGeechan

- The Broncs lead the all-time series with Siena, 16-12-6. Rider is 7-1-1 against Siena over the last nine meetings, including wins in each of the last three.
- Salama finished with five saves in the Broncs' sixth clean sheet of the season.
- Salama, Cole Sotack (Doylestown, PA /Central Bucks East [Rutgers]), McGeechan, Martin Chladek (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnazium Voderadska [Montevallo]), Diop, Theo Da Silva (Sao Paulo, Brazil/University of Rio Grande), Andrew Erickson (San Antonio, TX/International School of the Americas [Kentucky]) and Max Schrader (Cherry Hill, NJ/Scholar Athletes Leadership Academy) each played all 90 minutes.
