LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – In a tightly contested MAAC conference matchup, the Quinnipiac Bobcats defeated the Rider Broncs 1-0 on Wednesday evening. Despite a valiant effort from Rider, including a last-second opportunity to tie the game, Quinnipiac's defensive resilience and attacking pressure ultimately proved to be the difference. Rider falls to 1-6-2 on the season.
The lone goal of the match came late in the first half, as Quinnipiac's relentless attack finally broke through. The Bobcats controlled much of the offensive play, outshooting Rider 19-7, including an 8-4 advantage in shots on target. However, Rider's defense, led by strong goalkeeping and disciplined play, kept the game within reach.
Ellie Sciancalepore recorded three saves in the second half to give the Broncs a chance down the stretch.
Rider mounted a final push as the clock wound down, earning a corner kick with just seconds remaining.
Ava Ferrie delivered a well-placed corner to
Courtney Carter, who sent a precise header into the box, creating a dramatic scoring opportunity that nearly resulted in an equalizer. However, Rider's hopes were dashed when Quinnipiac's goalkeeper made a crucial last-second save to preserve the shutout and secure the victory.
Despite the loss, the Broncs showed resilience against a strong Quinnipiac side. Rider will look to build on this performance as they continue their push through conference play.
Quotes and Notes
"The Bobcats were the better team tonight. We gave our best effort. We asked them to work hard for 90 minutes, to compete hard for 90, and show a level of commitment for 90 minutes and they did it to the final whistle. We're the only team that's played every playoff team from last year so far. We have to take today's performance and put it against the opponent on Saturday."
