LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University men's swimming and diving team was defeated in its home opener Friday night, 155.5-138.5, by Lehigh. The Broncs fall to 0-2 on the season, while the Mountain Hawks improve to 1-0.
The Bronc men won six events in the meet.
The Broncs got off to a quick start, claiming the win in the 200-medley relay when
Nicholas Lane (Hackettstown, NJ/Lane Academy),
Matthew Borovik (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield),
Tivon Benjamin (Palm Bay, FL/St. Anthony's Secondary School), and
Billy Ruddy (Newton, NJ/Kittatinny Regional) stopped the clock at 1:32.98.
In the 100-breast, the Broncs got a one-two finish when
Maxwell Connelly (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) and Borovik swam 57.60 and 58.18.
Ruddy won the 50-free in 20.97 and
Ethan Rogowski (Waterford, NY/Shenendehowa) tied for second in 21.39. He then claimed victory in the 100-free, swimming 46.87.
Stavros Xantheas (West Orange, NJ/West Orange) and
Steven Figueroa (Whittier, CA/La Serna) were one-two on the 1-meter, scoring 278.18 and 228.38, respectively. The pair flipped places on the 3-meter with scores of 276.60 and 274.13.
Rider closed out the meet with a win in the 400-free relay with
Dawid Turos (Riverwoods, IL/Deerfield), Rogowski,
Cesar Alvarez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/The Ashton School), and Ruddy combining for a time of 3:07.68.
