Women's Basketball Topped by Mount St. Mary's

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University women's basketball team was defeated by Mount St. Mary's Saturday evening, 60-53. The Broncs fall to 5-11 on the season and 2-5 in MAAC play, while the Mountaineers improve to an equal 5-11 overall record and 2-5 in league games.
 
Rider opened the game on a 7-3 run, getting a basket by Makayla Firebaugh (Winchester, VA/James Wood), then later a three pointer from Sanaa Redmond (Philadelphia, PA/The Shipley School[Samford]) and basket by Taylor Langan (Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Jefferson Township[Colgate/Millersville]). The Mountaineers would come back and take an 11-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.
 
After the three pointer late in the first quarter that gave the Mount the lead, the Mountaineers scored eight-straight points to begin the second quarter extending the lead to 19-10. Molly Lynch (Sea Girt, NJ/Rutgers Prep) would hit a late three to trim the deficit to 25-19 at the half.
 
Trailing 29-19, the Broncs went on a 7-0 run, including four points by Mariona Cos-Morales (Matadepera, Spain/IES Matadepera[Casper College]). The Mount would open the lead back up to 39-32, but the Broncs closed out the third on a 7-0 run, started by a three from Jessika Schiffer (Iserlohn, Germany/Deutschhaus Gymnasium Würzburg), then buckets by Lynch and Redmond to tie the game 39-39 entering the fourth.
 
Jessica Tomasetti took over the game in the fourth for the Mount, scoring the game's first seven points in the quarter, then hitting a triple after a pair of Rider free throws to extend the lead to 49-41. A three-pointer by Firebaugh cut the deficit to 49-46 with 5:26 to play, but the Broncs would get no closer.

- Firebaugh scored a team-high 13 points, 10 in the first half, her eighth game in double figures this season.
- Langan added 12 points for her team-high 14th game in double figures.
- Schiffer finished with 11 to reach double digits for the fourth time this year.
- Lynch had a season-high eight points off the bench.

Broncs By The Numbers
- Rider shot 33.3% (19-57) from the field, and 40.0% (10-25) from three, and the Mountaineers shot 40.4% (23-57) from the field and 46.2% (6-13) from three.
- The Broncs had 13 assists on their 19 made baskets, led by six from Langan.
- Mount St. Mary's won the rebounding battle, 37-35, but the Broncs held a 10-8 advantage on the offensive glass.
- Redmond had three steals and Cos-Morales added three blocks.
