Women's Basketball Sees Winning Streak End at Marist

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY – The Rider University women's basketball team saw its two-game winning streak come to an end Thursday night at Marist, falling 65-55. The Broncs fall to 4-9 on the season, while the Red Foxes improve to 3-11. Both teams are now 1-3 in MAAC play.

Trailing 8-3, Taylor Langan (Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Jefferson Township[Colgate/Millersville]) got the Broncs to within one, scoring back-to-back baskets, including a mid-range jumper that beat the shot clock. Down 12-7, Rider scored the final four points of the quarter, trailing 12-11 after 10 minutes.

Molly Lynch (Sea Girt, NJ/Rutgers Prep) carried the momentum into the second quarter, scoring a bucket to put Rider up 13-12. After a 6-0 run put Marist back up 18-13, Langan scored four points during an 8-0 run that put Rider on top 21-13, but again the Red Foxes had an answer, scoring the half's final five points to go into the break, up 23-21.

Marist then scored the first five points of the second half, extending the overall run to 10-0 and the lead to 28-21. Jessica Schiffer (Iserlohn, Germany/Deutschhaus Gymnasium Würzburg) kept the Broncs in the game with a trio of threes, but leading 43-40, the Red Foxes ended the quarter with four-straight points to lead 47-40 with 10 minutes to play.

The Broncs slowly chipped away at the lead with a pair of buckets by Kaylan Deveney (Medford, NJ/Life Center Academy) and a layup by Aliya McIver (White Plains, NY/White Plains) trimming the deficit to 52-49, but Marist went on a 9-3 run to secure the game before free throws produced the final score.

"Just disappointed. We've been playing some good basketball lately, and defensively we struggled early with communication. That first half, missing shots on offense clearly affected our defense."

"Marist did a great job. They were a team that needed a win and took it to us, and we didn't respond as well as I thought we would."

"Taylor's been consistent, finder her spots and finding ways to score, but somebody else has to consistently do that as well."  – Head coach Lynn Milligan
