FAIRFIELD, CT – Ellie Sciancalepore (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) made nine saves, however the Rider University women's soccer team fell at Fairfield, 2-1, Saturday night. With the loss, Rider moves to 3-5-1 and 1-2-0 in the MAAC, while Fairfield moves to 4-3-3 and 2-0-0 in the MAAC.
The first half was the Sciancalepore show as the reigning MAAC Defensive Player of the Week stopped seven shots in the first half, keeping things scoreless going into halftime. The biggest save of the first half came in the 41st minute as she robbed Fairfield's Reagan Klarmann and Dana Nadda on back-to-back tries.
The Stags came out in the second half strong as five minutes into the second half, Elle Scott knocked in the game's first goal, sending a strike off the hands of Sciancalepore, making it a 1-0 lead.
However, the Broncs would be able to find an answer off the foot of Logan Racine (Ottawa, ON/St. Dominic (Mo.)) who netted her second of the year in the 73rd minute. Racine found possession off of a huge cross toward the top of the box from Samantha Sharrocks (Nottinghamshire, England The Bolsover School) and connected to tie up the match at one.
Fairfield would be able to find the game-winner moments later as Maddy Theriault threw a shot toward the goal and Reagan Klarmann deflected it past Sciancalepore to give the Stags a 2-1 lead with less than 12 minutes to play.
QUOTES & NOTES
"Was disappointing to concede the goals we did but we had some excellent performances in the game. Happy to see Logan come on and have an impact moment like she did and see the team respond to going down early in the first half. We'll look to bounce back next week. " – Rider Head Coach
