POUGHKEEPSIE, NY– The Rider University volleyball team fell in straight sets to Marist Wednesday night, falling 25-23, 25-21, 25-18. The Broncs fall to 2-9 overall and 1-2 in league play, while the Red Foxes improve to 4-9 on the season and remain unbeaten at 2-0 in MAAC matches.
Tied 5-5 in set one, Marist went on a 4-0 run to take an early lead in the set. Down 23-18, Rider went on a 4-0 run, including kills by
Paige Giehtbrock (Clarkston, MI/Clarkston) and
Kiannisha Santiago (San Juan, PR/Hudson Catholic (NJ)). The Broncs would not be able to hold off the Red Foxes attack to take the set however.
Marist took control of the second set midway through. With the Broncs up 12-11, the Red Foxes went on a 6-1 run. Down 18-14, Rider went on a 4-1 run, with aces by
Molly Rohde (Hortonville, WI/Hortonville) and
Ryley Frye (New Hope, MN/Robbinsdale Armstrong) to pull within one, but the Broncs would get no closer.
With Rider up 3-2 early in set three, Marist went on a 7-0 run. Down 11-5, Rider got back into the set with a 6-2 run, trimming the deficit to 13-11. Trailing 17-13, Giehtbrock served an ace as part of a 4-1 run to trim the deficit to 18-17. Leading 19-18, Marist closed out the match with a 6-0 run.

- Frye had three aces in the match.
