Women's Soccer Defeats Siena For First MAAC Win of 2023

Fisher scores as Rider takes down Siena 1-0

LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Rider University women's soccer team picked up its first MAAC victory of 2023, defeating the Siena Saints, 1-0, in Loudonville on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Broncs move to 3-4-1 and 1-1-0 in MAAC play and drops Siena to 1-5-2 and 0-1-1 in the MAAC.

Following a scoreless first half, the Broncs got on the board in the 48th minute, as Chloe Fisher unleashed a shot from just over the midfield line that squeezed into the upper left 90 as the Broncs would take a 1-0 lead straight out of the intermission.

Rider goalkeeper Ellie Sciancalepore was also stellar as she recorded her third shutout of the year and the 13th of her Rider career. Sciancalepore was especially active in the first half where six of her saves on the afternoon came from. With the shutout Sciancalepore moves into a tie for second all time in Rider history as well as her 19th career win which ties her for fifth all time.
QUOTES & NOTES
"It was a tough first half as our formation was not working against their 3-5-2 and during that time Ellie came up big with some game winning saves. At half time we were able to make the changes in personnel and formation and we did much better. Chloe spotted the keeper was off her line and hit a fantastic shot from distance for the winner." – Rider Head Coach Drayson Hounsome
