Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Plays Penn to Scoreless Draw Tuesday

Broncs outshot Quakers, 17-4

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University men's soccer team outshot Penn, 17-4, but the two teams played to a scoreless draw Tuesday night on Ben Cohen Field. With the draw, the Broncs move to 2-1-2, while the Quakers, who were ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Top 25 and were fresh off a 3-0 win over #14 Penn State, move to 1-2-1.

The Broncs took a 6-1 edge in shots in the first half, including a 2-1 edge in shots on goal. Both of the Broncs' shots came from Zaki Alibou (Meknes, Morocco/Meknes) in the 10th and 12th minutes, but Penn keeper Nick Christoffersen cleaned both up. Penn's only shot on goal in the game came in the 30th minute, but Adam Salama (Ramle, Israel/Orthodox [Ottawa Univ.]) made a diving save to steer it wide of the right post.

Rider developed three particularly dangerous chances in the second half. In the 63rd minute, Sebastian Rojek (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills [Stony Brook]) sent a beautiful ball from the left sideline through the box to David Ogbonna (Silver Spring, MD/Blake [Villanova]) on a run to the right post. But Ogbonna's touch was saved by Christofferson from point-blank range. In the 71st minute, Saad Chaouki (Montreal, Quebec/Antoine de Saint Exupery) created space at the top of the 18-yard box and sent a low shot on target that Christoffersen was able to punch away. Finally, in the 74th minute, Babacar Diene (Thies, Senegal/CEM Ballabey) rocketed a shot in transition from the top, left corner of the box that clanged off the woodwork.

Quotes & Notes
"We outshot them, we could've gotten a win, but we're unbeaten through four. I'm proud of where we're at. Obviously, there's always nerves in your home opener. We played a great team, an NCAA Tournament team last year, came off a great win for them against Penn State. So, I'm really pleased with how we battled tonight." – Rider Head Coach Chad Duernberger

- The Broncs and Quakers met for the fifth time, with Penn now leading the series, 3-1-1. The lone Rider win came in the opener of the series in 1981.
- Penn Head Coach Brian Gill is a 2004 graduate of Rider. He was a four-year starting goalkeeper, starting 66 of 67 games played in his four years at Rider (2000-03) and went on to spend three years (2004-06) on Russ Fager's coaching staff.
- Salama made one save in the draw.
- Salama, Jack McGeechan (Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands Regional), Martin Chladek (Prague, Czech Republic/Gymnazium Voderadska [Montevallo]), Chaouki, Ogbonna, Rojek and Ethan Shaw (Surf City, NJ/Northern Burlington [St. John's]) each played all 90 minutes.
- It was the fifth-straight 90-minute efforts for Salama, Chladek, Rojek and Shaw.
