LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Rider University Head Baseball Coach
Dr. Barry Davis announced the commitments of three transfers and an additional freshman for the 2023-24 academic year. The group will join the Broncs for the 2024 season and round out the recruiting class.
"In a time of considerable movement in college athletics, we feel fortunate to have added experience and youth to our roster while retaining most of our returners," said Davis. "Add the two fifth year graduates in
Luke Lesch and
Jack Winsett and our class looks stronger than it did. It is a different year but the same mission, vision and principles remain."
Christian Coombes – LHP/Ontario, Canada/Parkside Collegiate Institute/Saint Peter's
Coombes joins the Broncs after four seasons with MAAC-rival Saint Peter's. The lefty had his best season in 2023, starting 10 games with an 8.35 ERA and striking out 36 batters, while allowing just a .281 opposing batting average.
Justin Costanzo – OF/East Greenwich, NJ/Gloucester Catholic/Widener
Contanzo was a four-year starter for Widener, playing 114 career games and compiling 115 career hits and 26 home runs while maintaining a .337 batting average. Costanzo was the 2022 MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year after hitting .385 with 14 home runs and 45 RBIs. Constanzo also earned First-Team MAC Commonwealth honors after the 2023 season.
Lucas Garton – LHP/Vineland, NJ/Vineland
Garton joins the Broncs after three varsity seasons at Vineland High School. Garton was most proficient as a junior, making six appearances, including a scoreless inning against Camden Tech.
Kyle Neri – OF/Williamstown, NJ/St. Augustine Prep/Bryant
Neri did not see any game action in his freshman season at Bryant in 2023. At St. Augustine Prep, Neri recorded the walk-off hit to secure the 2021 South Jersey Non-Public A Championship. During his time in high school, Neri was ranked a top 50 overall recruit and top 10 outfielder in the state of New Jersey by Perfect Game.
