EDISON, NJ - Upon audit of the 2023 Softball All-MAAC teams, the league office has added recent graduate third baseman
Brianna Koonce (Warminster, PA/William Tennent) to the All-MAAC Second Team. Koonce joins First Team utility
Jessie Niegocki (Marana, AZ/Mountain View) and Second Team DP
Jadeyn Merrill (Lamesa, TX/Lamesa) earning All-MAAC accolades this season.
Koonce hit .274 with five doubles, two triples and two home runs, driving in 18 and scoring seven runs in 42 games played, including 40 starts at third base for the Broncs this past season. Her average jumped more than 100 points in league play, when she hit .377 with five runs, three doubles, two triples and two home runs, driving in 12.
Koonce was named MAAC Player of the Week on May 9 after hitting .533 (8-for-15) with two doubles, a home run, two walks, four RBI's and a run scored as the Broncs went 3-3, including a win over MAAC Champion Canisius (May 5) in the season's final week. Her two triples tied for the team lead and she had seven multi-hit games and five multi-RBI contests.
Koonce went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI in the season finale at Niagara (May 6) and hit both of her triples on the year at Iona (Apr. 2), driving in a run and scoring one. She went 3-for-6 with a pair of RBI's and a run scored in a doubleheader sweep of Morgan State (Apr. 11) and doubled, drove in two and scored a run in a win over Monmouth (Apr. 13). Koonce also singled, was hit by a pitch and scored a run in Game 1 of a sweep of Manhattan (Apr. 16).
