Teagan Schein-Becker (Trappe, PA/Perkiomen Valley) and men's tennis freshman
Stavros Hadjivarnava (Moutagiaka, Cyrus/British College of Gava) have been named McGriff Insurance Services Rider Athletes of the Month for April. Schein-Becker earns her third honor in the last four months after continuing to rewrite the Rider record books, while Hadjivarnava became Rider's first-ever All-MAAC First Team honoree in men's tennis.
Schein-Becker was part of two Rider Records at the Penn Relays, helping the 4x800 team to a second-place finish in 8:48.92, as well as the DMR program record in 11:29.54. Earlier in the month, she broke the 800 meter record at the Virginia Challenge to win the race in 2:02.77. She also began the month by leading the 4x1500 team to another program record and a first-place finish at the Colonial Relays (18:31.08). As of early May, Schein-Becker's times in the 800 and 1500 rank 14
th and eighth nationally.
Hadjivarnava also rewrote the Rider men's tennis record book, joining teammate
Dhruv Tangri (Punjab, India/Cambridge International School) in becoming the Broncs' first two All-MAAC selections in Rider's 26-year history in the league. Hadjivarnava was named to the All-MAAC First Team after posting a 5-1 singles record against MAAC competition. For the month, he was 4-1 in singles, including wins over competition from Quinnipiac, Marist, Loyola and Siena. At 3-3 in league play, the Broncs finished tied for fourth in the MAAC and won multiple league matches for the first time since 2005.
