GUILFORD, CT – The Rider University women's tennis team was defeated by league favorite Quinnipiac, 7-0, Sunday afternoon at Guilford Racquet Club. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 3-10 (1-2 MAAC), while the Bobcats are now 10-8 (3-0 MAAC).
The Bobcats swept the doubles point to begin the match, taking 6-2 wins at Nos. 1 and 3 and a 6-0 decision at No. 2. Quinnipiac also took all six singles flights in straight sets. The five games
Leila Koster (Duluth, GA/Rivers Academy) took at No. 1 against Claire Koscielski in a 6-2, 6-3, loss were the most on the day for the Broncs, while
Daniela Naves (Alvarado, Mexico/Club Med Academies) and
Sofia Gutierrez (Miami, FL/Palmetto Senior) took four apiece in 6-4, 6-0, losses at Nos. 3 and 5, respectively, to Kamilla Nella and Jordan Bradley.
"Disappointing, especially coming off our first conference win," said Rider Head Coach
Tom Battaglia. "Competitive first sets in singles, but we didn't dig deep when we needed to. Teams can't push us around like this, especially if we want to accomplish our goals this season."
The Broncs return to action Wednesday, when they travel to Delaware State. First serve from Dover, DE, is scheduled for 2 p.m.
