Women's Track and Field Wraps Up Excellent Meet at Princeton

Rider continues weekend at Princeton and Bucknell

PRINCETON, NJ and LEWISBURG, PA - Rider University women's Track and Field would continue their weekend at the Larry Ellis Invitational and start action at the Bucknell Bison Outdoor Classic. The Broncs would again see a new top 3 time in program history as the 4x100 team of Raisa Thunig, Mariah Stephens, Alenys Morales, and Hailey Palmer would take second at Princeton.

The 4x100 relay team would run a 47.11 which would land them 2nd place overall at the Larry Ellis Invitational and also rank second all-time in school history. Stephens and Palmer will now hold both of the top spots in Rider history breaking the school record last year with Genesis Walker and Elise Legzdins who finished in 46.94 at last year's Larry Ellis Invitational.

Stephens' strong day wouldn't be done there as she was able to finish 4th in the deep field in the 100m Hurdles with a time of 14.34. Rider would also get a solid performance from sophomore Kylie Emmens who would reach the finals and run a 15.00 in the event which is good for a new PR.

In the field, Alejandra Bartutis would hit a new PR in the triple jump finishing 4th with a mark of 11.59m. The sophomore Bartutis would continue to be impressive returning from injury by breaking her previous best of 11.53 set at the Big 5 Invitational earlier this month.

Maura Baker would round out the top performers for Rider winning the Shot Put with a 13.63 throw which is good for a new PR. The Broncs would take home four of the top five spots with Chika Efobi (13.22/2nd), Samantha Kamara (12.86/4th), and Natya Glasco (12.82/5th) all finishing in the top spots.

The day in Princeton would be cut short due to weather however the Broncs would continue action in Eastern PA at the Bison Outdoor Classic. Jordan O'Neill would show out at Bucknell hitting a top 10 Rider mark in the 5000m of 17:02.55. The new mark is good for a new PR for O'Neill and an ECAC/IC4A qualifying mark.

Sarah Eskew and Raihana Yameogo would also compete in the 1500m finishing with times of 4:36.82 and 4:43.55 respectively.

QUOTES AND NOTES

"O'Neill was really good this evening. She struggled a bit over the last third of the race but she was able to keep it together for a nice PR, top ten mark, and ECAC qualifier. We (also) had other strong efforts in the 1500 meters today by the women that I am also excited about. "- Rider Head Coach Bob Hamer

"The women ran a really really nice race with clean passes and a team commitment to one another.  We are really close to breaking this record and it great to see them come so close to it today.  Alenys did a great job stepping in at the last minute and running a great 3rd leg in her first time on the relay."- Rider Associate Head Coach Brett Harvey

"It was a big breakthrough performance for Maura and she built a really strong series going further with each throw.  The women's shot crew is really on a roll right now and they just keep throwing farther each week.  It's fun watching them right now."- Rider Associate Head Coach Brett Harvey

"The hidden gem on the track today was a big breakthrough performance for Kylie.  She's worked really really hard and had at times been really frustrated with her performances.  She broke out big time today and I'm really excited for the rest of her season."-Rider Associate Head Coach Brett Harvey

"Seeing Ale come back from injury and show great form in the triple jump has been really exciting.  She is a super talented kid and it's great to see her getting the performances she has worked so hard for.  She's got an opportunity to do some really great things the next few weeks."-Rider Associate Head Coach Brett Harvey

Rider will be continuing the weekend in Lewisburg at the Bucknell Outdoor Classic tomorrow April 16th.
