PHILADELPHIA –
Raquel Bolin (Plantation, FL/Xceed Preparatory Academy) won at No. 6 singles, but the Rider University women's tennis team was defeated at Temple, 6-1, Thursday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs drop to 3-9, while the Owls are now 13-4.
The Owls took the doubles point convincingly, with
Agnese Ceccarelli (Arezzo, Italy/Liceo Classico Francesco Petrarca) and
Leila Koster (Duluth, GA/Rivers Academy) faring the best of the Broncs at No. 1, falling to Maiko Uchijima and Jamie Wei, 6-2.
With the match already in hand, Bolin and Sydney Hua played an eight-game pro set, with Bolin taking the victory, 8-6, at No. 6. But the Owls took the remaining five singles flights.
Daniela Naves (Alvarado, Mexico/Club Med Academies) came closest to a win, taking Sena Takebe to three sets in a 6-0, 5-7, 10-5 loss at No. 3.
"I thought we played really well today," said Rider Head Coach
Tom Battaglia. "Huge effort from Dani, Leila, Avery and Raquel today. They were up for the challenge against a very tough Temple team. They played with little fear and it showed. Proud of the effort, especially playing back-to-back days."
The Broncs return to action Sunday, when they travel to MAAC foe Quinnipiac. First serve from Guilford Racquet Club in Guilford, CT, is scheduled for 1 p.m.
