LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ –
Jake Grimes (Atlanta, GA/Johnson Ferry Christian Academy) earned a win at No. 4 singles and the Broncs' top doubles duo of
Dhruv Tangri (Punjab, India/Cambridge International School) and
Nathan Slattery (Nenagh, Ireland) also won, but the Rider University men's tennis team was defeated by Sacred Heart, 6-1, Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, the Broncs move to 5-9, while the Pioneers are now 6-8.
Tangri and Slattery defeated Lefteri Apostolou and Alberto Mello, 6-3, at No. 1 doubles. But the Pioneers took the point with a 7-5 win at No. 2 and a 6-2 victory at No. 3.
Grimes defeated Antoine Hernandez, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 4 singles. But the Pioneers took the remaining five singles flights to clinch the 6-1 victory. Four of the five decisions in the Pioneers' favor came by straight sets, with
Elyad Oshnavie's (Asker, Norway/Asker) match at No. 6 being the exception. Oshnavie fell to Arya Alla, 3-6, 6-2, 10-6.
The Broncs return to action tomorrow, when they travel to Mount St. Mary's to take on the Mountaineers for the first time as MAAC foes. First serve from Emmitsburg, MD, is scheduled for 2 p.m.
