PHILADELPHIA – Temple swept the Rider University men's tennis team, 7-0, Wednesday morning. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 4-8, while the Owls improved to 14-2.
The Owls swept the doubles point to take the early lead.
Nathan Slattery (Nenagh, Ireland) and
Dhruv Tangri (Punjab, India/Cambridge International School) gave the Broncs their best chance at No. 1, but fell to Thibault Frumholz and Leo Raquin, 6-4.
In singles, the Owls similarly took all six matches in straight sets. Tangri and
Jake Grimes (Atlanta, GA/Johnson Ferry Christian Academy) led the Broncs with five games won apiece across the two sets. Tangri fell to Raquin, 6-3, 6-2, while Grimes was defeated by Frumholz, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 6.
"Lessons learned for sure. When you play a team as strong as Temple, you have to remain patient and wait for your opportunities," said Rider Head Coach
Tom Battaglia. "We gave away too many 30/30 points, and that was the difference. Confidence always wins at the end of the day."
The Broncs return to action tomorrow, when they travel to Coppin State. First serve is slated for noon in Baltimore.
