What You Need To Know
- Rider welcomes Canisius Friday night in search of its ninth-straight victory.
- Rider is taking part in the Rising Coaches inclusion game initiative. This inaugural nationwide campaign serves as a reminder that sports can be used as a platform to highlight important societal issues in both our communities and nationwide.
- Following a three-game losing skid, the Broncs have won their next eight, including a dramatic 70-67 win at Iona, erasing an 18-point second-half deficit and snapping the Gaels' 21-game home winning streak. The Broncs trailed at the half in the first five games and erased double-digit deficits in four. Wins against Saint Peter's and Manhattan came by double digits, before the Broncs edged Fairfield by one.
- Rider's winning streak is tied for fifth-longest in DI, through Wednesday.
- Allen Powell scored a game-high 18 points, including the game-winning jumper with 7.3 seconds remaining against Fairfield on Feb. 10. His heroics came after hitting the game-tying putback to beat the regulation buzzer and scoring seven more points in overtime as the Broncs defeated Fairfield on Jan. 29.
- Mervin James and Ajiri Ogemuno-Johnson posted double-doubles in Rider's win at Manhattan. James made it two straight with 10 points and 10 rebounds vs. Fairfield, with Ogemuno-Johnson going for eight points and 10 boards.
- Dwight Murray, Jr. continues to be the Broncs' do-it-all point guard, averaging 16.1 ppg., shooting 39.4 percent from deep. Murray's 3.2 assists and 1.4 steals per game are best on the team and his 4.5 rebounds are third.
- Rider leads the all-time series with Canisius, 40-16. However, the series has been much closer in recent years, with the Broncs posting a 11-9 record against the Griffs in Head Coach Kevin Baggett's 11 years at the helm. Seven of the last 10 meetings have been decided by two points or less.
- Canisius is led by Jordan Henderson at 13.9 points per game, while Tahj Staveskie (11.6 ppg.) also averages in double figures. Jamir Moultrie (9.5 ppg.) just misses the mark, while TJ Gadsden, fresh off a career-high 31-point performance in a convincing win over Quinnipiac, is averaging 7.9 ppg.
- 11th-year Head Coach Kevin Baggett's teams have posted a 175-161 record. Baggett won MAAC Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2018.
- Only John Carpenter (292) and Thomas Leyden (187) have more wins at Rider.
