Rider University Men's Soccer Head Coach Chad Duernberger has announced the hiring of Maxx Wurzburger as Assistant Coach. Wurzburger comes to Lawrenceville following six seasons on Todd Tumelty's coaching staff at Montclair State, including the 2022 season as Associate Head Coach.
"I'm excited to welcome Maxx to our Rider Men's Soccer staff," said Duernberger. "Maxx comes highly recommended as a fantastic coach and detailed recruiter. We had great conversations about the vision, philosophy and core values within our program. We want to develop our student-athletes into great soccer players, but more importantly, into great men. I'm thrilled to have Maxx join our Rider family."
Wurzburger's most-recent stint at Montclair was his second with the Red Hawks, having previously served from August 2015 until May 2017. He planned training sessions in addition to serving as the team's Recruiting Coordinator. He spent one season as the Head Coach at the College of Mount Saint Vincent, overseeing all soccer-related operations and managing the men's soccer budget.
"First and foremost, I would like to thank Coach Duernberger and the administration at Rider University for this exciting opportunity," said Wurzburger. "Having played and coached in New Jersey my whole life, I know how much talent there is here and I look forward to convincing some of the best players in the area to stay close to home at Rider. I can't wait to get started working with Coach Duernberger and the rest of the coaching staff, administration, support staff, players, and recruits. Go Broncs!"
Additionally, Wurzburger works with the Match Fit Soccer Academy, instructing youth soccer players in technical, tactical, physical, and psychological aspects of the game. He also serves as the liaison between players, parents, and coaches while handling all scheduling and communications between the three sides.
Wurzburger closed out his playing career in 2014, helping Montclair State to the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship as he was named to the All-NJAC First Team. Appearing in 21 games, Wurzburger scored six goals and had five assists, including one in the conference championship game against Rutgers-Camden. A two-time All-Conference selection, Wurzburger, a member of Montclair State's NCAA Final Four Team in 2011, appeared in 85 games during his four-year career, tallying 14 goals along with 21 assists.
He holds both a USSF "E" and "F" license and has an NSCAA Level 5 Coaching Certificate. He graduated from Montclair State in 2016 with a B.S. in Physical Education and Health.
