BRYN MAWR, PA –
Roger Martinez (Girona, Spain/Saint George's School) won at No. 4 singles, but the Rider University men's tennis team fell at Villanova, 6-1, on Friday. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 3-4, while the Wildcats are now 2-3.
In doubles, the tandem of
Nathan Slattery (Nenagh, Ireland) and
Dhruv Tangri (Punjab, India/Cambridge International School) defeated Will Gatti and Ryan Nguyen, 6-2, at No. 1 doubles. But the Wildcats took a pair of wins at Nos. 2 and 3 to take the doubles point.
In singles, Martinez earned a 7-6, 6-2, win over Nguyen at No. 4. But Villanova took the remaining five singles flights to secure the 6-1 win.
"Disappointing result honestly," said Rider Head Coach
Tom Battaglia. "No way to sugar coat it. We aren't sticking to our game play and resort back to old habits. We need to break through the fear barrier if we want to compete with these teams going forward."
The Broncs return to action Saturday, when they travel to Monmouth.
