LITTLE SILVER, NJ –
Dhruv Tangri (Punjab, India/Cambridge International School) earned an impressive win at No. 2 singles, but the Rider University men's tennis team fell at Monmouth, 6-1, Saturday night. With the loss, the Broncs fall to 3-5, while the Hawks are now 4-1.
The Hawks began the match with the doubles point, taking a pair of 6-3 wins at Nos. 1 and 2 and taking No. 3, 7-5. Tangri picked up an impressive 6-3, 6-2, win over Lucca Silva at No. 2 singles. But the Hawks took the remaining five singles flights to wrap up the 6-1 victory.
Roger Martinez (Girona, Spain/Saint George's School) won the first set at No. 3 against Alexander Zuckerman. But Zuckerman came back to win the second set, 6-2, and took the match with a third-set tiebreaker, 10-8.
Vishal Ganeshan (Sydney, Australia/Knox Grammar School) was also competitive at No. 6, but fell to Arthur Dussaubat, 6-4, 6-3.
"Small improvements from yesterday," said Rider Head Coach
Tom Battaglia. "Kept more balls in and developed better pattern play. Better intensity overall as well. Lucky to have some practice time before we hit the road to Orlando in a few weeks."
The Broncs return to action Mar. 13, when they travel to Orlando, FL, to play the first of a pair of Spring Break matches, the first against Fairleigh Dickinson.
