What You Need To Know
- Rider visits Delaware Wednesday night at the Bob Carpenter Center.
- The Broncs most recently fell at Monmouth, 77-71, on Saturday. Mervin James (18), Allen Powell (15) and Corey McKeithan (14) all finished in double figures.
- The loss came after Rider snapped a seven-game losing streak with a 73-56 victory over Stonehill on Dec. 8. T.J. Weeks Jr. and Tariq Ingraham posted double-doubles and Mervin James added 15 points.
- James leads the MAAC at 18.6 points per game and is fourth at 7.1 rpg.
- Allen Powell became the 42nd Rider player all-time to score 1,000 career points against Stonehill on Dec. 8. Already a 1,000-point scorer for his collegiate career with 1,559 points, including 620 in two seasons at North Alabama, James is next up on the Rider list with 939 points as a Bronc.
- Delaware is led by Jyare Davis at 18.8 points per game to go along with 6.9 rebounds per game. Only Christian Ray's 8.7 rpg., to go along with 8.7 ppg., are better than Davis' rebounding production. Gerald Drumgoole Jr. (11.8 ppg.), Cavan Reilly (11.0 ppg.) and Jalun Trent (10.8 ppg.) have also averaged in double figures with Trent's 3.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game leading UD.
- Delaware leads the all-time series, 33-30. Rider and Delaware met for the first time in nearly a decade last season, with the Blue Hens taking a 60-59 victory on Jameer Nelson Jr.'s tip-in with 3.6 second remaining. The Blue Hens retook possession after Nelson sold a highly controversial offensive foul called on Mervin James with 9.7 seconds left and the Broncs inbounding underneath their own basket.
- The Broncs were picked as the MAAC Preseason Favorite by the league's coaches. Mervin James was also named MAAC Preseason Player of the Year, while Allen Powell joined James on the Preseason All-MAAC First Team.
- 12th-year Head Coach Kevin Baggett's teams have posted a 179-174 record. Baggett won MAAC Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2018.
- Only John Carpenter (292) and Thomas Leyden (187) have more wins at Rider.
