What You Need To Know
- Rider returns home for the first time since Nov. 6, following a six-game road trip, when it hosts Fairfield on Sunday.
- After opening the year with a 113-67 win over Immaculata, Rider has fallen at No. 5 Marquette, Nebraska, Duquesne, Stony Brook, Maryland and Siena.
- Mervin James has scored in double figures in all seven games, including double-doubles at Duquesne and Siena and a career-high 28 points at Maryland. He leads the MAAC at 17.9 points per game and is third at 7.7 rebounds per game.
- Allen Powell stands 20 points shy of 1,000 for his career entering Sunday.
- Fairfield is led by Syracuse and Providence transfer Brycen Goodine at 15.7 points per game, including 45.9 percent shooting (17-37) from long range. Jasper Floyd had added 10.9 ppg., while leading the team in rebounds (5.6 rpg.), assists (5.0 apg.) and steals (2.7 spg.). Jalen Leach (10.6 ppg.) and Caleb Fields (10.2 ppg.) also average in double figures, while Peyton Smith (9.4 ppg., 5.0 rpg.) and Louis Bleechmore (9.4 ppg., 5.6 rpg.) have made strong contributions.
- Rider scored a pair of dramatic regular-season wins over the Stags last season to cut Fairfield's lead in the all-time series to 37-36. Fairfield had won the prior three meetings to retake the series lead after Rider won the previous six meetings to even the series. Rider Head Coach Kevin Baggett's teams are 12-10 against the Stags.
- Corey McKeithan scored a career-high 18 points in the setback at Nebraska.
- T.J. Weeks Jr. posted a double-double of 14 points, 12 rebounds at Marquette.
- The Broncs were picked as the MAAC Preseason Favorite by the league's coaches. Mervin James was also named MAAC Preseason Player of the Year, while Allen Powell joined James on the Preseason All-MAAC First Team.
- 12th-year Head Coach Kevin Baggett's teams have posted a 178-172 record. Baggett won MAAC Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2018.
- Only John Carpenter (292) and Thomas Leyden (187) have more wins at Rider.
