What You Need To Know
- Rider begins the 2023-24 season Monday night, when it plays host to Division III Immaculata University.
- The Broncs were picked as the MAAC Preseason Favorite by the league's coaches. Mervin James was also named MAAC Preseason Player of the Year, while Allen Powell joined James on the Preseason All-MAAC First Team.
- James averaged 12.9 points and 6.8 rebounds last season, shooting 48.2 percent from the floor and 82.5 percent from the free-throw line. He posted a team-high five double-doubles, while scoring in double figures a team-high 24 times in starting all 30 games.
- Powell averaged 10.4 points, 2.1 assists, 1.5 three-point field goals made and 0.9 steals in 33.7 minutes per game last year. He scored in double figures 16 times and opens the 2023-24 season 68 points away from becoming Rider's 42nd 1,000-point scorer.
- Rider returns a third starter in Tariq Ingraham, who averaged 6.4 points and 3.5 rebounds in 30 games played last season.
- Also back for the Broncs are Corey McKeithan (3.4 ppg., 30 games played) and Anthony McCall (17 games played).
- Rider brought in an eight-member recruiting class, including graduate transfer T.J. Weeks, Jr. (UMass), junior college transfers Tyriek Weeks (Miami Dade) and JT Langston, Jr. (East Los Angeles College) and freshmen Nic Anthony, D.J. Dudley, Ruben Rodriguez, Moustapha Sanoh and Ife West-Ingram.
- 12th-year Head Coach Kevin Baggett's teams have posted a 177-166 record. Baggett won MAAC Coach of the Year in 2015 and 2018.
- Only John Carpenter (292) and Thomas Leyden (187) have more wins at Rider.
