Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Defeated by La Salle

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – The Rider University women's basketball team was defeated by La Salle University, 72-44, Tuesday night. The Broncs fall to 2-3 on the season, while the Explorers improve to 3-2.

After a slow start offensively for both teams, Sanaa Redmond (Philadelphia, PA/The Shipley School[Samford]) and Taylor Langan (Lake Hopatcong, NJ/Jefferson Township[Colgate/Millersville]) both hit basket that put Rider up 2-0, then 4-2. Unfortunately for the Broncs, that would be Rider's lone leads in the contest. La Salle would close out the first quarter on an 18-2 run, leading 20-6 after 10 minutes.

After a 9-0 run put the Explorers up 31-8, Rider responded with a 9-2 run, including four points from Langan and an and-one by Kaylan Deveney (Medford, NJ/Life Center Academy). La Salle would lead 36-17 at the half.

The Explorers opened the third quarter with an 11-2 run, before Rider countered with a 9-2 including a three by Makayla Firebaugh (Winchester, VA/James Wood). La Salle carried a 55-31 lead into the fourth.

In the fourth, the Broncs were held without a field goal for over six minutes as the Explorers extended the lead to as large as 30.

Quotes & Notes
"We owe our fans an apology for what they had to watch tonight. We were not a good basketball team tonight, and we've done a lot of great work and tonight we were not prepared well enough to come out here and play, and that's on me."

"La Salle did a good job pressuring us. I don't think we handled it very well. They did a good job on our ball screens. The first quarter in particular, we were very rushed with our shots." – Head coach Lynn Milligan

"Our biggest thing is our mindset. We're a brand new team and we've had five games now. If we can just get our minds to shift and not get too high or too low, I think we'll be pretty good in conference play. It's how we respond as a collective group, as a coaching staff, as a team, and as individual players. We're excited, we're prepared, we just have to show up." – Graduate Guard Taylor Langan

- La Salle wins its second-straight over the Broncs, extending its lead in the all-time series to 11-3.
- Langan scored a team-high 13 points, reaching double-figures for the fourth-straight game.
