VILLANOVA, PA – The Rider University men's swimming and diving team topped Big East opponent Villanova, 165-128, in a dual meet Wednesday night. The Broncs improve to 3-2 on the season, while the Wildcats fall to 0-2.
The Bronc men won 10 events in the meet.
Rider got off to a strong start in the 200-medley relay.
Lucas Racevicius (Watertown, CT/Holy Cross),
Billy Ruddy (Newton, NJ/Kittatinny Regional),
Nicholas Lane (Hackettstown, NJ/Lane Academy), and
Bobby Irwin (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) swam to a winning time of 1:31.93.
Derek Fantano (Morris, CT/Holy Cross) followed with an impressive swim of 9:43.27 to win the 1,000-free.
In the 100-back, Racevicius and
David Rucci (Sewell, NJ/Gateway Regional) swam one-two, stopping the clock at 49.86 and 50.82. Rucci later won the 200-IM in 1:53.25.
The Broncs swept the 100-breast.
Alex Boeckx (Folsom, PA/Ridley),
Maxwell Connelly (Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon), and
Matthew Borovik (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield) swam 56.50, 57.60, and 58.37 in the win. Connelly later won the 200-breast in 2:05.11.
Irwin and
Cesar Alvarez (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic/The Ashton School) finished one-two in the 50-free, touching the wall at 21.18 and 21.26.
Christian Overton (Westampton, NJ/Rancocas Valley) and Fantano swam one-two in the 200-back, stopping the clock at 1:51.10 and 1:51.75.
Rider got another sweep in the 100-fly. Lane, Racevicius, and
James Bugianesi (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) posted swims of 50.17, 50.39, and 51.54.
The 200-free relay team of Racevicius, Irwin, Ruddy, and Boeckx closed out the meet with a winning time of 1:24.14.

Stavros Xantheas (West Orange, NJ/West Orange) and
Marcas Racevicius (Watertown, CT/Holy Cross) finished two-three on the 1-meter. Racevicius was then second and Xantheas third on the 3-meter.
