Women's Soccer Wins Back-to-Back Matches After 2-1 Win Over Manhattan

Ferrie and Freeman lift Rider over Manhattan

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ- Rider University Women's Soccer gained a crucial three points as they defeated Manhattan 2-1 on Senior Day on Saturday. With the win, Rider moves to 5-6-1 and 3-3 in the MAAC and drops Manhattan to 3-5-3 and 2-2-2 in conference.

After a scoreless first half, Rider was able to strike first as in the 56th minute Hannah Freeman would connect on a penalty kick to score her team-leading fourth goal of the year. The Jaspers would find the equalizer as Manhattan quickly struck back in the 65th minute when Sami Derrico unleashed a shot from outside the 18-yard box, tying the match at one all.

The Broncs however found the answer as Leonor Alves pushed a cross over to Ava Ferrie who set up right in front of the Manhattan keeper and connected off her right foot to give the Broncs a 2-1 advantage in the 75th minute.

QUOTES & NOTES
"Hannah set a goal to score a certain number of goals and she surpassed that so to do that on Senior Day makes it that much more exciting. As for Ava she got close a few times but to score her first official collegiate goal being a game-winning goal it's certainly a day that they'll remember." – Rider Head Coach Drayson Hounsome

"It's a game that traditionally we have success in and we tend to matchup up well with them every game has been within one goal, so it doesn't really matter what they are doing we expect to go out and get three points but it's never really easy to do that so to go out and get three points on Wednesday and three points today it's super important." – Rider Head Coach Drayson Hounsome

"It's exciting, four goals on the season and hopefully more to come they've been big goals too and this is potentially my last time playing soccer, this is it this is what I've lived for so it feels good" – Rider Midfielder Hannah Freeman

- Freeman has reclaimed the team lead in goals (4) and points (8).
- The win is career number 20 for Ellie Sciancalepore who moves into a tie for 4th all-time in Rider history (Alex Post 07-10)
- Rider has now defeated Manhattan in each of the previous five meeting and moves to 14-10-6 all-time vs the Jaspers
