Strong First Half Guides Women's Soccer Past Saint Peter's, 3-1

Broncs score a pair of goals in first half to get MAAC road win

JERSEY CITY, NJ- Rider University Women's Soccer dominated the first half in North Jersey as they scored a pair of goals early and held on to defeat Saint Peters, 3-1. With the win, Rider moves to 4-6-1 and 2-3-0 in MAAC play and drops Saint Peter's to 3-7-0 and 1-4-0 in the MAAC.

The Broncs struck fast as right out of the gates, Rider took a 1-0 lead as Hannah Freeman (Lowville, NY Lowville) pushed a loose ball passed the keeper to give the Broncs the lead less than 10 minutes into the match. The first half continued to be all Rider as Chloe Fisher (Warrington, England Cronton Sixth Form College)  backed up the Freeman goal with one of her own in the 17th minute.

Saint Peter's did find an answer late. Trailing 2-0, the Peacocks were fouled inside the 18-yard-box and were awarded a penalty kick, which Joana Dias was able to net past Ellie Sciancalepore (Randolph, NJ Randolph) to cut the lead to one at 2-1. The Broncs however put the exclamation mark on things as sophomore Olivia Smith (Rutherford, NJ Rutherford) netted her first of the year off a strong feed from Bethie Morgan (Palmerton, PA Palmerton).
