Field Hockey Closes Out Season at Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, NY – The Rider University Field Hockey team closed out the season Sunday afternoon, falling 2-0 at Hofstra. The Broncs close out the season at 7-11, and the Pride wrap up the season at 6-12.

The Pride broke through midway through the second quarter. After earning a penalty corner, Hofstra made the insert to the top of the circle. The Pride made the stick stop then executed a give and go that freed the shooter in the middle of the circle for a shot that found the back of the cage.

The Broncs appeared to have the equalizer in the third quarter on a corner of their own, but Willermijn Ephraim's (Amsterdam, The Netherlands/Vossius Gymnasium) shot that went into the goal was deemed to be played too high and the goal was disallowed.

Early in the fourth, the Pride added the insurance goal. The Broncs made the stop on a Hofstra corner attempt, but could not clear the zone. In the ensuing play a Hofstra shot deflected off a rider stick and into the goal to put the Pride up 2-0.

The Broncs best chance to answer came with roughly three minutes to play, earning a corner, but the shot was deflected past the goal.
