Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Drops NEC Game at Wagner

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The Rider University Field Hockey team scored twice in the second half to tie the game, but lost, 3-2, at Wagner Sunday afternoon. The Broncs fell to 6-10 on the season, and 3-3 in NEC play. The Seahawks improve to 4-11 overall and an equal 3-3 in league games.

The Seahawks put the Broncs on the back foot early, scoring less than three minutes into the game off a penalty corner. Wagner extended the lead early in the second, off another penalty corner and the game remained 2-0 into the break.

Midway through the third quarter, the Broncs got on the board. Of an out of bounds restart, the Broncs played a long pass to the circle that found the stick of Semra Said (Mannheim, Germany/Feudenheim Gymnasium Mannheim). Said's shot was saved, but Valeria Perales (Madrid, Spain/IES Mirasierra) jumped on the loose ball and reverse chipped a shot into the net to trim the deficit.

With under six minutes remaining in the game, Rider earned a penalty corner. Kiera Guckavan (Middletown, PA/Middletown Area) made the insert to Perales who passed to Said who gave the ball back to Perales, where Perales fired a shot by the Wagner goalie to tie the game.

The Broncs joy would be short lived however, as less than a minute later, Wagner earned a penalty corner and scored what would eventually be the game-winning goal.
